PROJECT SUMMARY |
Brief description of the project and main objectives |
The overall objective of this project is to support the development of a green and low-carbon hydrogen ecosystem in Türkiye, aligning with the broader goals of the European Green Deal and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 7 and 13. As global energy systems shift towards cleaner alternatives, renewable hydrogen has gained prominence due to its long-term potential to replace natural gas, particularly in sectors that are difficult to decarbonize, such as industry and transport. Türkiye has identified the establishment of a clean hydrogen industry as a strategic priority, and this project aims to enhance institutional capacity, assess the adaptability of existing infrastructure—such as BOTAŞ storage facilities—for hydrogen integration, and develop a Hydrogen Master Network Plan to guide future developments. To achieve these objectives, the project will undertake comprehensive assessments of future hydrogen demand and supply trends, regulatory frameworks, infrastructure feasibility, and potential hydrogen production regions. Benchmarking visits to EU countries with advanced hydrogen expertise will provide valuable insights, while technical evaluations will determine the feasibility of repurposing storage facilities and blending hydrogen into the natural gas grid. Additionally, the project will enhance knowledge-sharing through workshops, seminars, and training sessions, fostering collaboration among key stakeholders in Türkiye and the EU. These efforts will contribute to Türkiye’s energy transition, supporting its goal of achieving a climate-neutral economy by 2053 while promoting investment and innovation in the hydrogen sector. |
