Young Translators Contest

Negotiating Framework” of 3 October 2005 governing the principles of accession negotiations states: “Türkiye will need to produce translations of the acquis into Turkish in good time before accession, and will need to train a sufficient number of translators and interpreters required for the proper functioning of the EU institutions upon its accession”. Based on this obligation, the Directorate for EU Affairs organizes Young Translators Contest every year to  raise awareness regarding Türkiye’s EU accession process and acquis translation among the students studying translation and interpretation in Turkish universities, as well as to contribute to the training in this field.

During the Contest, the students translate an EU text from one of the three working languages of the European Union (English, French  and German) into Turkish. The winners of this Contest are awarded with a certificate of success and have the chance to visit the  European Union institutions in Brussels.

Young Translators Contest has been held since 2010 and until now, 1258 students participated in the Contest.
