Brief description of the project and main objectives |
The primary objective of the project is to restore marine ecosystem connectivity along Türkiye’s southwestern coast by establishing a network of Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) and implementing measures to enhance resilience against climate change. |

Achievements / expected outputs / results |
Outputs: Designation of new MPAs, including no-fishing zones, no-anchor zones, and sensitive core zones. Development of ecosystem-based fisheries management plans. Cleanup of marine habitats by removing discarded fishing gear. Organization of training programs, awareness campaigns, and stakeholder engagement activities to support marine protection efforts.
Results: Improved protection and connectivity of marine ecosystems in southwestern Türkiye. Enhanced resilience of marine biodiversity to the impacts of climate change. Strengthened enforcement and management capacities for MPAs. Increased awareness and participation among stakeholders, including local communities, in marine conservation efforts. |
