First meeting of EU Programmes Council was held under the chairmanship of Ambassador Faruk Kaymakcı, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Director for EU Affairs

EU Programmes Council was formed in accordance with Presidency Accord No 2019/20 on Management of Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistances and EU Programmes Accession. Accordingly, first meeting of EU Programmes Council was held in Volkan Vural Meeting Hall at the Directorate for EU Affairs under the chairmanship of Ambassador Faruk Kaymakcı, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Director for EU Affairs In the meeting in which high level representatives of the related institutions attended, the current programmes and agencies in which Türkiye participated were assessed and the participants exchanged ideas of Türkiye’s accession to the EU Programmes in 2021-2027 period. In this regard, the establishment of working groups was decided to closely follow new programmes in coordination of Directorate for EU Affairs.

During his speech, Ambassador Faruk Kaymakcı, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Director for EU Affairs pointed to the legal framework of Union Programmes enabled by an agreement in 2002, the Programmes in which Türkiye participated and the new programmes, which are open to Türkiye’s participation.

Bülent Özcan, Acting Director-General for Financial Cooperation and Project Implementation, shared Türkiye’s new holistic approach with the participant. He emphasized the importance of integration of IPA and Union Programmes and underlined that every related institution has responsibility so that our country better benefits from EU Programmes.

Afterwards, Şebnem Sözer, Head of Department of Union Programmes and Cross-border Cooperation, delivered a presentation regarding the Union Programmes. She introduced the Programmes in which Türkiye participated in 2014-2020 period and the Programmes, which are open to Türkiye’s accession in 2021-2027 period.

At the end of the presentation, Ambassador Faruk Kaymakcı, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Director for EU Affairs received the opinions of the representatives from the relevant institutions about the new period. In this scope, the establishment of the working groups was decided.
