Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Director for EU Affairs Ambassador Faruk Kaymakcı attended the Openning Ceremony of Bayrampaşa International City Olympic Games

Openning Ceremony of “Bayrampaşa International City Olympic Games” of “The Joy of Sport for Bonding Society: Right to the Health Right to the City” which is inaugurated by Bayrampaşa Municipality along with her partners through “Town Twinning Grant Scheme between Türkiye and the EU” was held on 22 November 2019 in İstanbul.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Director for EU Affairs Ambassador Faruk Kaymakcı delivered an opening speech. In his speech,  Ambassador Kaymakcı stated that Town Twinning Grant Scheme between Türkiye and the EU is designed for strenghtening intercultural exchanges and sustainable cooperation between local authorities from Türkiye and the EU member countries. Ambassador Kaymakcı added that "The Joy of Sport for Bonding Society: Right to the Health Right to the City" is one of the projects supported under this programme and is the only project funded in İstanbul.

Ambassador Kaymakcı indicated that the town twinning is an important concept which improves relations between countries and added that countries develop common solutions for common challenges and learn from each other by working together. 

Following the opening speeches delivered by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Director for EU Affairs Ambassador Faruk Kaymakcı, Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism Ahmet Misbah Demircan, Ambassasor of the Lithuania to the Republic of Türkiye Audrius Brüzga, Mayor of Bayrampaşa Municipality Atila Aydıner the ceremony was started with marches of sporters and then different sportive shows were presented. World Champion National Archer Mete Gazoz, Paralympic World Champion National Archer Burcu Dağ and Karate World Champion Müslüm Baştürk also attended the Openning Ceremony.

Bayrampaşa International City Olympic Games, held between 20-23 November 2019 with the attendance of young people coming from Kaunas city of Lithuania and 2.000 young people from 18 different countries, in 12 different branches of sport activities, is one of the project activities of “The Joy of Sport for Bonding Society: Right to the Health Right to the City”. Project is coordinated jointly by Bayrampaşa Municipality, Kaunas Municipality, Bayrampaşa Youth and Sports Club Association and Bayrampaşa District Governorate. Project aims to strenghten sustainable cooperation between local authorities and promotes inclusion of young people to sport activities.
