High Level Agriculture Dialogue

The first Türkiye-EU High Level Agriculture Dialogue meeting, which was previously planned to be held in 2019 but could not be held due to the decision to suspend the high-level dialogues between Türkiye and the EU at the EU Foreign Affairs Council meeting on 15 July 2019, was held in Ankara on 11 May 2022, co-chaired by Vahit Kirişci, Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, and Janusz Wojciechowski, EU Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development.

During the meeting, agricultural reforms and rural development strategies, security of food supply, productivity, innovation and economic sustainability in Türkiye and the EU were discussed. In addition, the impact of the Russia-Ukraine war on regional and global food supply security, measures to be taken in this context, economic opportunities for farmers, knowledge and innovative solutions for sustainable agriculture and transition to a green economy were discussed. In addition, there was an exchange of information on the current state of trade in agricultural and food products between Türkiye and the EU.

The second meeting of the High Level Agriculture Dialogue was hosted by the European Commission in Brussels on 30 November 2023. The meeting focused on food supply security, trade issues, protection of geographical indications, Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance - Rural Development (IPARD), sustainable food systems, enhancing EU-Türkiye cooperation and opportunities for cooperation in the United Nations, World Trade Organization, G20 and other multilateral fora.
