Türkiye-EU Joint Parliamentary Committee

Türkiye-EU Joint Parliamentary Committee

The Türkiye-EU Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) constitutes the main framework for Türkiye’s relations with the European Parliament (EP).

The JPC was established on the basis of the EP’s resolution of 14 May 1965 and the resolutions of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye (GNAT) and the Turkish Senate, adopted respectively on 22 June and 14 July 1965, and on the basis of the Association Council Decision of 27 July 1965.

The JPC is composed of an equal number of members from GNAT and the EP.

Established as a democratic oversight body for relations between Türkiye and the EU, the JPC is tasked with monitoring and evaluating the accession negotiations and all existing arrangements between Türkiye and the EU.

Within the scope of the mandate granted by the GNAT and the EP, the JPC may exchange views on issues related to Türkiye-EU association relationship and may submit recommendations to the GNAT, the EP, the Turkish Government, the EU Council, and the European Commission.

The most recent Türkiye-EU JPC meeting was held in Strasbourg on 27-28 November 2024.
