Public consultation for Mediterranean Sea Basin Programme Document

Public consultation has been initiated for the final version of the Program document under the Interreg ‘NEXT MED’ transnational cooperation programme document. This consultation is carried out within the framework of the relevant legislation of the EU. The relevant regulations are EU 2021/1060 and 240/2014.

 

The responses and comments gathered during the consultation will help consolidate the final version of the Interreg NEXT MED program document before it is submitted to the European Commission for approval. The text of the program developed over the last two years, recently national representatives of 15 participating countries, namely Algeria, Cyprus, Egypt, France, Greece, Israel, Italy, Lebanon, Jordan, Malta, Portugal, Spain, Tunisia, Türkiye and Palestine.

 

The Cross-border Cooperation Program in the Mediterranean Basin will continue to support Euro-Mediterranean cooperation for the period 2021-2027, based on the experience and results of the 2007-2013 and 2014-2020 cross-border cooperation programs. Compared to the previous two programming periods, Interreg NEXT MED will cover 15 countries with an increased budget of €244 million from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), Development and International Cooperation Instrument (NDICI) and the Instrument for Pre-Accession (IPA).

 

Interreg NEXT MED aims to contribute to smart, sustainable, equitable development for the entire Mediterranean basin by supporting balanced, long-term, far-reaching cooperation and multi-level management. The mission of the program envisages financing cooperation projects at Mediterranean level that address common socio-economic, environmental and governance challenges such as adoption of advanced technologies, competitiveness of SMEs and job creation, energy efficiency, sustainable water management, adaptation to climate change, transition.

The deadline for public consultation is 31 May 2022.
