AGREEMENTS ON TURKEY'S ASSOCIATION TO HORIZON EUROPE, ERASMUS+ AND EUROPEAN SOLIDARITY CORPS (ESC) PROGRAMMES FOR THE PERIOD 2021-2027 SIGNED IN BRUSSELS

Agreements enabling Turkey's official association to Horizon Europe, Erasmus+ and European Solidarity Corps (ESC) Programmes will be signed on October 27, 2021 in Brussels.

 

These three essential agreements, which will ensure continuity of our country's existing cooperation with the EU in the fields of science, research, innovation and mobility in the 2021-2027 period, will be signed by H. E. Ambassador Faruk Kaymakcı, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Director for EU Affairs, on behalf of Turkey and Mariya Gabriel, European Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture and Youth, on behalf of the European Union.

 

At the signing ceremony, President of the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TÜBİTAK) Prof. Dr. Hasan Mandal and Director of Turkish National Agency İlker Astarcı will accompany Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Director for EU Affairs Ambassador Kaymakcı.

 

In his comments regarding Turkey’s participation in Horizon Europe, Erasmus+ and European Solidarity (ESC) Programmes in the new period, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Ambassador Kaymakcı, emphasized that EU Programmes and Agencies contributed to Turkey's EU membership and development process and stated that "We will sign the association agreements of Horizon Europe, the world's largest civilian R&D and innovation programme as well as Erasmus+ and European Solidarity Corps Programmes, which offer learning mobility for tens of thousands of our citizens to Europe every year. Through these Programmes, our citizens will be able to develop projects, technologies and conduct research and activities which can contribute to the solution of global problems. Researchers from other European countries will also come to our country to carry out research, projects and activities together with their opponents, and will better embrace our country and our values. These projects will accelerate the digital and green transformation of our country. I sincerely wish the new period of the Programmes will be beneficial for our country, our citizens, as well as for Europe".

 

Turkish Scientists Will Benefit From 95.5 billion Euros Funding Opportunity of Horizon Europe

Universities, researchers, public institutions, industrial organizations, SMEs and non-profit organizations will have access to 95.5 billion euros of funding withing the scope of the Horizon Europe Programme.

 

 

 

 

EU to Support Turkey's Green Development and Digitalization Actions

With the Horizon Europe Program, it will be possible to receive support from the EU for science, research and innovation projects that will be prepared in many fields such as climate change, civil security, industry, space, energy, health, food and particularly in green development and digitalization. The Horizon Europe Programme, which is designed to cover a wide area for the years 2021-2027, will be carried out by TUBITAK in our country again.

 

We Have 20 Years of History with the EU in Science and Research

As a candidate country, Turkey has been participating in the technology and innovation programmes of the European Union for nearly 20 years and improving its cooperation with the European innovation and research ecosystems through the projects implemented within the scope of these Programmes. Our country joined the Horizon 2020 Programme, the predecessor of the Horizon Europe Programme, between the years 2014-2020 and implemented 812 projects with 1190 Turkish partners and provided a grant allocation of 277.4 million Euros.

 

Approximately 60 Thousand of Turkish Citizens Benefit From the Erasmus+ Program Every Year

With Erasmus+ and ESC Programmes executed by the Turkish National Agency, which is affiliated to the Directorate for EU Affairs, our young people have the opportunity to get to know the world, acquire new skills and work for the benefit of society!

 

Citizens of Other Erasmus Countries Will Embrace Our Country Better

Erasmus+ Programme, which will be implemented throughout 2021-2027 period with the total budget of 28.4 billion Euros, aims to provide studying and experience gaining opportunities across Europe and the world to more than 10 million people of all ages and backgrounds. Between 2014-2020, approximately 60 thousand of our citizens benefited from mobility activities such as internship, training, volunteering, cooperation, and courses in Europe every year. Our country, which shows great interest in the Programme in the fields of education, training, youth, and sports, ranks first by far as the country that receives the highest number of applications across Europe.

 

Since the beginning, 50 thousand youngsters have participated in volunteer activities in Europe throughout the European Solidarity Corps Programme

So far, 50,000 youngsters have participated in the European Solidarity Corps Programme (ESC), which offers young people between the ages of 18-30 the opportunity to participate in various solidarity and volunteering activities around Europe and in Turkey. The Programme, which will have a budget of 1 billion Euros for the new period 2021-2027, will offer at least 270,000 young people the opportunity to participate in volunteering and solidarity projects across Europe.
