Announcement on The News regarding Turkish Products Marketed in the EU

In some media sources, news allegedly stated that, according to EU Commission Weekly RAPEX Report, Türkiye is in the second place after China in terms of origin of unsafe products going into Europe.

The Rapid Alert System for dangerous non-food products (RAPEX), which is an important instrument for market surveillance works as an early warning system. Owing to RAPEX database all EU member states exchange information on products posing a risk to health and safety of consumers and take measures to eliminate that risk.

Every Friday, the EU Commission publishes a weekly report based on the information provided by the member states.

In the subject report, there are products of EU member states’ origin as well as other countries.

In order to inform the public adequately, it will be helpful to consider yearly reports of the EU.

In the 2014 RAPEX Report of Commission, where  %64 of all unsafe products notifications were of  Chinese origin, %14 were related to the products originating in the EU and EEA countries. Only %3 of all unsafe products notifications were related to products originating in Türkiye. During that period, total numbers of unsafe products notifications were 2435. Of these notifications, 1462 were related to products originating in China, 75 were in Germany, and 66 were related to products originating in Türkiye. In addition, unsafe products notifications related to products of USA origin were 60.

Although Türkiye is not member to RAPEX system, under the coordination of the Ministry of Economy, related public institutions and agencies closely follow notifications in RAPEX system and take necessary measures in order to prevent that products making available in Türkiye market.
