EU Minister Ömer Çelik’s remarks regarding the German Vice Chancellor, Sigmar Gabriel’s statement on Türkiye
Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Ömer Çelik stated that EU should first judge itself honestly and objectively while discrimination, xenophobia and islamophobia are rampant.
EU Minister Ömer Çelik criticized the German Vice Chancellor Sigmar Gabriel's remarks saying that he could not see Türkiye becomes a full EU member during his political career.
In a series of tweets, the EU Minister Ömer Çelik added: "These statements are not based on objective criteria and can't reflect EU's position on Türkiye. These are europhobic opinions. Such opinions make the EU susceptible to serious risks for its future. There is nothing to worry about Türkiye in the wake of such statements. Yet, it would be right to be concerned for the EU's future. It is not good for a politician to place his political career in the center of everything and to comment around it. EU should first judge itself honestly and objectively while discrimination, xenophobia and islamophobia are rampant."
