Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Ömer Çelik attended a ground-breaking ceremony in Adana for new facilities

Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Ömer Çelik attended the ground-breaking ceremony of the Social Housing constructed by the Yüreğir Municipality during his visits in Adana, in which he said that the country was going through a challenging period.

Minister Ömer Çelik indicated that Turkish soldiers had been making great sacrifices for days in Afrin in order to eradicate threats and attacks against Türkiye’s national security by terrorist organisations, and also emphasized that Türkiye did not have any territorial ambitions.

Minister Çelik evaluated Operation Olive Branch being carried out by the Turkish Armed Forces, and said:

“Türkiye has been strongly opposing the political stance that supports the establishment of a terrorist state and corridor in the region, as well as warning against the threats and aggression posed against Türkiye by terrorist organisations increasingly entrenched at its borders for months. However, we all saw that these warnings were not taken into consideration and that our friends and some allies provided arms to these terrorist organisations. Türkiye resorted to all diplomatic initiatives and acted with tolerance and patience. However, some parties mistook Türkiye’s tolerance as weakness. These parties should have understood that it would not be the case as demonstrated by history.”

Minister Ömer Çelik stated that Operation Olive Branch has been launched in order to protect Türkiye’s rights arising from international law regarding its national security and said: “Certain centres of black propaganda in and outside of Türkiye are trying to present the operation as being carried out against our Kurdish brothers in Syria. This is clearly a fabrication. All Turkmen, Arab and Kurdish peoples in Syria are our brothers. We are in fact extending an olive branch to our brothers in Syria.”
