Civil Society Sector Workshop organized in Konya

As the last one of Civil Society Sector Workshops within the framework of “Technical Assistance for Support to the Preparation and Implementation of the Turkish Civil Society Sub-Sector Programming 2016-2017” implemented by the Ministry for European Affairs was organized on 9 January 2018 in Konya with a high rate of participation of the CSOs in Konya and neighbouring provinces. 

The opening speeches in the workshop organized in Konya were delivered by the Ministry for EU Affairs, Director of Project Implementation Mr. Bülent Özcan, and Director of Central Finance and Contracts Unit Mr. Selim Uslu. They underlined that in IPA II period that adopted a sectorial approach, civil society is identified as a sector to highlight of the importance of civil society in EU-Türkiye relations, and also expressed that they were pleased to observe CSOs interest in the workshops organized last year.

Following the opening speeches, a panel discussion was held by the representatives of the Ministry for European Union, during which the participants were provided with in-depth information about the “civil society sector” and the programming process along with detailed outputs of the previous civil society sector workshops. The morning session of the workshop ended with a presentation of the support provided to CSOs within the framework of EU financial assistance.

The first sessions in the afternoon ware devoted to the discussion of the priorities and needs of the civil society and the ways and means of ensuring their active participation in the programming process. The second session in the afternoon was held to receive the opinions and suggestions regarding the projects to be designed to support civil society organizations in the upcoming programming period.

Since the first workshop in Ankara held on 15 February 2017, approximately 1000 CSOs and university representatives participated in the series of workshops and shared their views. The findings of the workshops and the views of participants will be the basis of future activities.
