The activities of the Directorate for EU Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the occasion of 9 May Europe Day continued with a fast breaking dinner under the theme of "solidarity and sharing" with the participation of the EU ambassadors and the Syrians under temporary protection in Turkey. Within the scope of the European Union Communication Strategy, the fast breaking dinner was organized with the cooperation of the Directorate for EU Affairs, Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD), Altındağ Municipality and the Delegation of the European Union to Turkey at Ulucanlar Prison Museum on 20 May 2019.
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Director for EU Affairs Ambassador Faruk Kaymakcı, Head of AFAD Dr. Mehmet Güllüoğlu, Mayor of the Municipality of Altındağ Prof. Dr. Asım Balcı, Director General of Migration Management of the Ministry of Interior Abdullah Ayaz, Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Turkey Ambassador Christian Berger, ambassadors of the EU Member States and Syrians under temporary protection in Turkey participated in the Solidarity and Sharing Fast Breaking Dinner.
Underlining Turkey's role in the European dimension of the management of irregular migration, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Director for EU Affairs Ambassador Faruk Kaymakcı stated “Turkey hosts approximately 4.6 million foreigners, of which 3.6 million are Syrians, and is a country that provides protection to the largest population of foreigners in the world. Turkey, with its experience in the field of migration management and international protection, has an indispensable role in the management of the refugee crisis faced by the EU today.”
In the fast breaking dinner organized at the Woodshop Building of Ulucanlar Prison Museum, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Director for EU Affairs Ambassador Faruk Kaymakcı and ambassadors of the EU Member States met the Syrian families, particularly orphans, under temporary protection in Turkey, talk with the families and children.
