The Adana Contacts by Minister for EU Affairs Ömer Çelik

Minister of EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Ömer Çelik, who held contacts in Adana, visited the Ceyhan Chamber of Commerce.

In his statement during his visit to the Ceyhan Chamber of Commerce, Minister for EU Affairs Ömer Çelik said that it was not possible to govern the economic agenda of Türkiye without an accurate assessment of the political agenda of the country.

Indicating that many aims that were deemed impossible have been achieved since 2002 and that the leadership of the President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan during his term as president and prime minister regarding the realisation of the reforms to overcome Türkiye’s main problems was key to the Government’s high performance in ensuring stability, Minister for EU Affairs Ömer Çelik said:

“A greater role for the private sector and chambers of commerce as actors in the management of and increasing of the economic performance of Türkiye was one of our priority issues in this period. However, it was seen that development and progress models led by the state were not particularly successful.  In order to ensure progress, the state needed to carry out reforms and pave the way, prepare the legal structure, and provide for integration and financial discipline with transparency.

-Fight against terrorism on Türkiye’s agenda

Minister for EU Affairs Ömer Çelik noted that one of the most important items on Türkiye’s agenda was the fight against terrorism.

Indicating that a year had passed since the failed coup attempt by FETO and that the Government was making notable efforts to maintain Türkiye on a stable and consistent route of progress for a bright future, Minister of EU Affairs Ömer Çelik stated:

“All these are indicators of our political will for Türkiye to remain as a country that faces towards the future. During this period, we were under attack by not only by FETO but also the PKK and Da’esh terrorist organisations. However, we have covered great distance in advancing Türkiye with the understanding of ‘one country, one nation, one state and one flag’ and have protected the security of our country.  As the Minister for EU Affairs, I can say quite certainly that if many European countries had faced even one tenth of the threats Türkiye faced, you can be sure that they would have taken much more stringent measures, suspended law and closed their borders. However, Türkiye continues its efforts to ensure the balance of freedoms even with these difficulties.  Furthermore, Türkiye continues to maintain its relations with international law. Most important of all, Türkiye makes efforts to ensure that there are no negative effects on our citizens and the private sector as a result of the measures.
