Financial and Budgetary Provisions Chapter is Opened

Chapter 33 (Financial and Budgetary Provisions) is opened at the 12th meeting of the Intergovernmental Conference in Brussels on June 30, 2016.

At the Intergovernmental Conference, Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Ömer Çelik, Minister of Foreign Affairs Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu and Minister of Finance Naci Ağbal represented the Turkish delegation while the Council of the European Union was represented by Bert Koenders, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands; and the European Commission was represented by Johannes Hahn, Commissioner for Enlargement and Neighbourhood Policy. 

Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Ömer Çelik stated that the opening of the Chapter 33 is a significant step that expresses our determination to revive the accession negotiations which was underlined in Türkiye-EU Summits on November 29, 2015 and March 18, 2016. Mr. Çelik also emphasized that carrying forward the accession process is a common interest of both sides.

Minister Çelik also mentioned that opening of this Chapter, which is directly related to membership is a concrete indicator showing both Türkiye’s and EU’s commitment to Türkiye’s EU membership.

He also called for the swift opening of  the  Chapter 15- Energy, Chapter 23- Judiciary and Fundamental Rights, Chapter 24- Justice, Freedom and Security, Chapter 26- Education and Culture and Chapter 31- Foreign, Security and Defence Policy to the negotiations in order to sustain a real dynamism in accession negotiations.

After the Conference, Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Ömer Çelik, Minister of Foreign Affairs Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu and Minister of Finance Naci Ağbal together with the EU delegation held a joint press meeting.
