Türkiye’s assessments on the first draft of the European Parliament’s Report on Türkiye have been conveyed to EU officials

European Parliament has started the debate on the draft 2014 Report on Türkiye prepared by the EP Committee on Foreign Affairs. The draft report was prepared by Kati Piri, EP rapporteur for Türkiye and Dutch member of the Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats.

Türkiye’s preliminary assessments on the draft report, along with our contributions and views that the report needs to adopt an objective and balanced approach contributing to EU-Türkiye relations have been conveyed initially to Kati Piri, EP rapporteur for Türkiye, and also to Martin Schulz, President of the European Parliament, Federica Mogherini, High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the Commission, Johannes Hahn, Member of the European Commission for European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations as well as to the chairmen of the political groups in the EP and the co-chairmen of the Friends of Türkiye Group, in writing, by Ambassador Volkan Bozkır,  Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator.

Collaborative efforts of Türkiye and the European Union for a balanced, objective and unbiased report will contribute to advancing Türkiye’s EU process. To this end, we will continue contacts with the officials of the European Union, in particular the European Parliament.
