TAIEX Regional Seminars on Domestic Violence and Violence Against Women
The TAIEX Regional Seminars on Domestic Violence and Violence Against Women, organised through the cooperation of the Ministry for EU Affairs and European Commission TAIEX Unit is held in Gaziantep Tuğcan Hotel, between 31 January– 1 February 2013.
The seminar is organised with the aim of sharing the latest developments regarding the field of fight against domestic violence and violence against women with regard to Chapter 23 "Judiciary and Fundamental Rights" and Chapter 19 “Social Policy and Employment”, thus increasing the current awareness among all participants ranging from experts, academics and representatives of relevant public institutions and NGOs. The opening speeches of the conference are delivered by Acting Governor of Gaziantep Governorship Mevlüt Kurban, Deputy Minister of Family and Social Policies Assistant Professor Aşkın Asan, Deputy Minister for EU Affairs Dr. Alaattin Büyükkaya and Deputy Minister of Food, Agriculture and Livestock Kutbettin Arzu.
Deputy Minister for EU Affairs Dr. Alaattin Büyükkaya pointed out that domestic violence is mainly stemmed from the lack of democracy within family unit. Mr.Büyükkaya also stated that Türkiye, with its 1000 year old deep-rooted culture, will overcome this essential problem through accession process of Türkiye to the EU that is being regarded as a civilization project by our country.
