Considerable parts of the EU Acquis come under the jurisdiction of municipalities. Therefore, for municipalities, obtaining sufficient knowledge and capacity on the EU and the EU-related issues are significant in terms of implementation of the Acquis correctly.

In this context, preparation phase of the project which will be conducted collectively by Directorate of Training and Institution Building, Directorate of Project Implementation and Union of Municipalities of Turkey, and which aims to enhance administrative capacity and awareness of municipalities on the EU-related issues, is completed. Target group of the "Municipalities prepare for the European Union project" is the provincial and city municipalities which have a population at least 50000 citizen. Within the scope of project which has been implemented by 2011, following activities will be done:

- A web enabling distance education for experts of municipalities.

- Briefings for mayors and deputy mayors with regional conferences that will be held in 8 cities.

- Study visits to the municipalities of the EU on the purpose of observing best practices. 

- Publications and documents on the municipality-related EU issues.
