Acting Undersecretary Ambassador Selim YENEL
Ambassador Yenel was born in 1956 in İstanbul. He is married with two children.
Having completed his high school education at English High School, Ambassador Yenel studied at Ankara University’s Faculty of Political Science and graduated from the Department of International Relations in 1978.
Ambassador Yenel joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in February 1979. At the Ministry, he served respectively at the Department for International Nuclear Energy, Cabinet of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Department of Middle East and Africa, Special Advisory Office of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Special Advisory Office of the Undersecretary, Office of the Undersecretary, Department of European Union Affairs and Directorate General for European Union Economic Affairs.
Ambassador Yenel served abroad respectively at the Permanent Representation of Turkey to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development as the Third and Second Secretary, at the Turkish Embassy in Kabul as the Second Secretary, at the Permanent Representation of Turkey to the United Nations as the First Secretary and Counsellor.
Having served at the Permanent Delegation of Turkey to the European Economic Community as the Counsellor and First Counsellor between 1994-1999, Ambassador Yenel was appointed to Vienna as Ambassador in 2005 and continued to serve there until October 2009.
Between 2009-2011, Ambassador Yenel served as Deputy Undersecretary of Ministry of Foreign Affairs. On 12 December 2011, Ambassador Yenel was appointed to the Permanent Representation of Turkey to the European Union as Ambassador. In January 2017, Ambassador Yenel returned to Ankara and took office as the Acting Undersecretary of the Ministry for EU Affairs on 1 February 2017.
He is fluent in English.
