Evaluation of the Rhetoric of Certain European Politicians by Minister for EU Affairs Ömer Çelik

The Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Ömer Çelik shared the message:” Türkiye has a central role in the future of Europe” over his Twitter account.

The Minister for EU Affairs Ömer Çelik noted that the excluding Türkiye from Europe was referred to in the “short-sighted” rhetoric on the rise in EU and went on to say “Those who employ this short-sighted rhetoric not only are ignorant about Türkiye, they also have never really comprehended what Europe is about.”

The Minister for EU Affairs Ömer Çelik stated that these people discuss this matter for days, formulate arguments and carry out analyses, and construct grand theories that resemble ‘paper towers’ and said: “If asked where and what Europe is, these people would not be able to agree on one credible definition. None of them would be able to respond meaningfully if asked about ‘a Europe without Türkiye’. History and geopolitics alone would invalidate their theses, not to mention international politics.”  

The Minister for EU Affairs Ömer Çelik said that if these people formulating such theses would just take a look at the map, this would bring an end to the debate. He noted that there was a clear geopolitical map apart from the geographical one for those able to see it and it was the former which lent spirit to the latter.

Emphasizing that a different scene emerged when a ‘map’ of recent tensions and changes was viewed, the Minister for EU Affairs Ömer Çelik stated that “Türkiye, with many positive attributes, has a central role in the future of Europe as a strong European state.”
