Project on Raising Awareness on the Procedures of the Individual Application in the Area of Human Rights

The Second Training Seminar of the Project on Raising Awareness on the Procedures of the Individual Application in the Area of Human Rights was held in Antalya

With the purpose of effective use of the newly introduced application procedures in the field of human rights, the 2^nd Training Seminar of the Project on Raising Awareness on the Procedures of the Individual Application in the Area of Human Rights was held on 7 March 2014 in Antalya. The Project is supported by the British Embassy in the framework of Reuniting Europe Programme and implemented by the Ministry for EU Affairs jointly with the Constitutional Court, Ombudsman Institution, Human Rights Institution of Türkiye and Ministry of Justice. The Project has been launched as of 1 October 2013.

The training seminar started with opening remarks of Mr Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator, Mr M. Nihat Ömeroğlu, Chief Ombudsman, Mr Fatih Aydın, Deputy President of Human Rights Institution of Türkiye and Mr Peter Spoor, Political Counsellor of British Embassy.

Mr Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator stated that significant structural reforms have been made with regard to human rights in Türkiye for the last 12 years. Mr Çavuşoğlu said that Türkiye has made great progress in terms of institutionalisation in the field of human rights, particularly after the Constitutional Amendments of 2010.

Minister Çavuşoğlu stated that the introduction of the individual application to the Constitutional Court is an important milestone contributing to the decrease of the applications to the European Court of Human Rights.  

Minister Çavuşoğlu also underlined the importance of the establishment of Ombudsman Institution and Human Rights Institution of Türkiye to ensure institutional safeguards for human rights.

With the training program provided in the scope of the Project on Promotion of Individual Application Procedures in the field of Human Rights, the awareness of citizens from all walks of life on the individual application procedures will be raised, Minister Çavuşoğlu said.
