Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu Visited Strasbourg
Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu visited Strasbourg on January 14, 2014.
Minister Çavuşoğlu firstly met with Martin Callanan, Chairman of the European Conservatives and Reformists (ECR) wing of the Alliance of European Conservatives and Reformists (AECR) in the European Parliament (EP), as well as ECR members Daniel Hannan and Syed Kamall.
Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu also held a meeting with Hannes Swoboda, President of the EP group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats. Afterwards Minister Çavuşoğlu met with the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) deputies, Armağan Candan, Hasan Taçoy and Ersan Saner.
Minister Çavuşoğlu also paid a visit to the EP Rapporteur on Türkiye, Ria Oomen-Ruijten. In the meeting, Çavuşoğlu and Oomen-Ruijten discussed the Türkiye report to be put on vote at the EP in February and Çavuşoğlu expressed his hopes for an objective report from the EP.
Afterwards Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu came together with EU Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighbourhood Policy Stefan Fule at a working dinner. The two discussed the recent developments in Türkiye along with Türkiye-EU relations.
Çavuşoğlu finalized his talks in Strasbourg with Thorbjorn Jagland, the Secretary General of the Council of Europe.
