TAIEX Regional Seminars on Domestic Violence and Violence Against Women

 

The TAIEX Regional Seminars on Domestic Violence and Violence Against Women, organised through the cooperation of the Ministry for European Union Affairs and European Commission TAIEX Unit is held in Trabzon NovOtel, between 20-21 September 2013.

 

The seminar is organised with the aim of sharing the latest developments regarding fight against domestic violence and violence against women within the framework of justice and home affairs, thus increasing the current awareness level among all participants ranging from experts, academics and representatives of relevant public institutions and NGOs. The opening speeches of the conference are delivered by Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Egemen BAĞIŞ and Governor of Trabzon, Abdil Celil ÖZ.

 

Minister for European Union Affairs and Chief Negotiator Egemen BAĞIŞ expressed his pleasure for delivering the opening speech in the regional TAIEX Seminar which is held in Trabzon after being organized in Gaziantep, Antalya and İzmir respectively. Despite the accomplished legal reforms and the existence of institutional capacity, Mr. Bağış pointed out that there is still a great need for further development.

 

Mr. Bağış emphasized that as the children belonging to a cultural tradition which values the women and in which men and women have struggled together shouldering each other throughout history. He further expressed that every citizen in Türkiye from its easternmost to the westernmost parts participates in the full-fledged national efforts to fight against violence against women. Mr. Bağış also mentioned that the participation level of the seminar demonstrates the great determination and ambition which is the basis of diagnosis that is required for the healing process.

 

Lastly, Mr. Bağış underlined that in Türkiye women were granted the right of universal suffrage before most of the European countries. He also expressed his confidence that in Anatolia-the word which contains the word “Mother (Ana)”- our women’s never ending vibrant spirit will carry our country much further than the European Union standards.
