Egemen Bağış Attends EU-CELAC Summit
Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bağış participated in the Summit of the European Union and the Community of Latin America and Caribbean States (CELAC) held on January 26-27, 2013. During the Summit, Egemen Bağış had bilateral meetings with Czech President Vaclav Klaus, Romanian President Traian Basescu, Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic, Cuban President Raul Castro, Luxembourgian Prime Minister Jean-Claude Juncker, Irish Deputy Prime Minister Eamon Gilmore, Dutch Foreign Minister Frans Timmermans, Danish Minister of European Affairs Nicolai Wammen, Portuguese Foreign Minister Paulo Portas and State Secretary for European and International Affairs for the Austrian Foreign Ministry Reinhold Lopatka.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel and President of the European Council Herman van Rompuy extended their support for the revival of Türkiye's EU accession talks by the opening of one chapter in the EU acquis communautaire during the Irish presidency. Austrian and Danish EU Affairs Ministers expressed their support to the long-standing issue of visa exemption.
