The 50th meeting of EU-Türkiye Association Council was Held
The 50th meeting of EU-Türkiye Association Council, which was established by the Ankara Agreement signed between Türkiye and European Economic Community in 1963, was held on June 22, 2012, in Brussels.
Association Council which convenes at the ministerial level is the main decision making body between Türkiye and the EU. For Turkish side, Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Mr. Egemen Bağış chaired to the meeting. The Council of the European Union was represented by Mr. Nicolai Wammen, Minister for EU Affairs of Denmark who holds the EU Presidency and Mr. Stefan Füle, European Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighbourhood.
Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Mr. Egemen Bağış reaffirmed Türkiye’s commitment to the accession process by starting his speech in Turkish and emphasizing that Turkish is EU’s future official language. Türkiye’s developments over political and economic criteria and enhancements about alignment of legislation with EU acquis was summarized and Türkiye’s approaches towards Positive Agenda, visa and “Cyprus” issue was underlined.
