Egemen Bağış attended the inauguration ceremony of the Signalization and Rehabilitation of Irmak-Karabük-Zonguldak Railway Line Project
Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bağış, together with Binali Yıldırım, Minister for Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communication, Mehmet Ali Şahin Deputy of Karabük and Vice-President of the European Commission in charge of transport Siim Kallas, has taken part in the inauguration ceremony for the groundbreaking of the Signalization and Rehabilitation of Irmak-Karabük-Zonguldak Railway Line project. Deputy Undersecretary Dr. Fatih Hasdemir and Director for Sectoral Policies Dr. Erol Saner were also present.
This project, which is being carried out under IPA III and is a priority under the Transport Operational Program will contribute to improving Türkiye’s railway infrastructure, to achieving a balance between different transport modes and to integration with Trans-European transport networks. In terms of budget, this is the largest project in Türkiye financed jointly with the EU, approximately 227 MEUR. Upon completion of this project, a total of 415 km of rails will be rehabilitated improving capacity and speed. Facilitation of transport will contribute to the accessibility and thereby to the development of the region. All precautions have been taken to minimize environmental impact and needs of persons with impaired mobility have been taken into account.
