Fishery Policies Meeting and Inauguration of Küçükçekmece Fish Market

Küçükçekmece Municipality’s Implementation of EU Standards in Küçükçekmece Retail Fish Market Project - “Fishery Policies Meeting”, funded under Civil Society Dialogue II Grant Scheme, was held in İstanbul on February 22, 2012 with the participation of Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bağış and Mayor of Küçükçekmece Municipality Aziz Yeniay.

In his speech, Küçükçekmece Mayor Aziz Yeniay declared that from now on fishery industry has congregated at one point in Küçükçekmece and healthy fishery from production to consumption have been realized by several trainings within this project.

After Mr. Yeniay, Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bağış take the floor and emphasized the importance of fishery policy of the EU. He also added that thanks to “Fishery Policies Meeting and Inauguration of Küçükçekmece Fish Market” project, Türkiye acquired a Fish Market above the EU Standards. He expressed that fisheries is our only animal export goods to the EU and he added that studies about fisheries has been conducted in 35 provinces within this project.

After the protocol speeches, by the moderation of Ministry for EU Affairs Deputy Undersecretary Dr. Mehmet Cangir, Civil Society Dialogue II Fisheries Projects were presented.

Within the same programme, the Fish Market in Küçükçekmece, renewed throughout the project, was officially opened by Minister Bağış.

At the second part of the programme, project partner of grant beneficiaries in Civil Society Dialogue II, Agriculture and Fisheries Grant Scheme made their presentations about “Aspects on Civil Society Dialogue from EU”. After presentations, with the participation of representatives of Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock, Istanbul University and the EU Delegation to Türkiye, EU’s Fishery Policies and Alignment with the EU Acquis Panel was held.
