The TAIEX Seminar on "Cycle on Human Rights Institutions"

The TAIEX Seminar on "Cycle on Human Rights Institutions: Turkish Independent Human Rights Institution in line with the Paris Principles", was held in cooperation between the Ministry for EU Affairs and European Commission TAIEX Unit in Ankara Plaza Hotel between 19th - 20th December 2011.


The TAIEX seminar which was organised in the field of human rights institutions falling under the Chapter 23 "Judiciary and Fundamental Rights", lasted tow days. During these two days various experts, academicians, representatives of civil society organizations and public institutions who are specialized on this subject, deeply discussed different sides of the subject in various workshops. The Draft Law on Independent Human Rights Institution, accountability and appointment of membership, eligibility and plurality of membership, budget and staffing, jurisdiction and functions were the main topics that have been discussed.

The closing speech of the conference was delivered by the Deputy Minister for EU Affairs Prof. Dr. Hasan Nuri Yaþar. Prof. Dr. Yaþar, in his speech emphasized that the establishment of a body which will assume the duties and responsibilities of a national human rights institution in line with the Paris Principles bears utmost importance to prevent human rights violations and to ensure the supervision of the implementation of the related legislation.

Prof. Dr. Yaþar indicated that the enhancement of democratic culture and the implementation of political reforms in a full and complete manner is a very important priority for the Government. Prof. Dr. Yaþar underlined that the accomplishment of all the holistic studies in the field of human rights will be a very big step for Turkish democracy.
