Jean Monnet Scholarship Programme Info Day for Public Institutions Was Organized

With the presidency of Dr. Mehmet Cangir, the Deputy Undersecretary, an Info Day was organized in order to inform the personnel of Public Institutions, on 19th of December 2011 by the Ministry for EU Affairs.

Deputy Undersecretary Dr. Mehmet Cangir indicated that the Jean Monnet Scholarship Programme is a long running scholarship programme that is being carried out for 20 years besides being an advantageous one due to the wide range of study fields it supports. Stating that %60 of 100 scholarships are reserved for Public Institutions each year, Deputy Undersecretary Dr. Mehmet Cangir told that within the framework of Türkiye's negotiation process for full membership to the EU, Jean Monnet Scholarship Programme, a project funded by the European Union (EU), aims to support Türkiye's administrative capacity building efforts for the effective implementation of the EU acquis, through enhancing its human resources in the relevant disciplines. Additonaly, Dr. Cangir emphasized the importance of the Scholarship Programme in terms of its contribution to the EU-Turkish civil society dialogue: "It is essential to explain Europe to Türkiye and vice versa. Türkiye is represented in the best possible way by means of our qualified scholars."

Afterwards Director of Project Implementation Unit Bülent Özcan took the floor and gave useful information regarding the history, contingents reserved for different sectors, amount of the scholarship, application criteria and selection process of the Jean Monnet Scholarship Programme of which the deadline for application is 30th of January 2012. Özcan stated that the number of scholars from the public institutions have not yet reached a satisfactory level due to both insufficient promotion and encouragement.

The Info Day was concluded with a presentation by Rüveyda Küçük about the College of Europe Master Scholarship Programme which is another scholarship programme carried out by the Minsitry for EU Affairs.
