The Opening Ceremony of "EU Travel of Çanakkale” Project

"Provinces Preparing for the European Union Programme" was put into practice for the purpose of enhancing the technical and administrative capacities of the "EU Units of Governorships" by the Ministry for EU Affairs  within the framework of the "Improving the Effectiveness of Governorships in the EU Accession Process Project" which is carried out for a year by the Ministry for EU Affairs  in cooperation with the Ministry of the Interior. "EU Travel of Çanakkale" project which was suported under "Provinces Preparing for the EU Programme", was presented out at 15th of September 2011 in Çanakkale.

The opening ceremony was carried out at the Çanakkale Commercial Excahge building, the Ministry for EU Affairs Act. Deputy Undersecretary Dr. Mehmet CANGİR, Izmir Provincial EU Permanent Contact Point Ali PARTAL, district governors, representatives of public institutions affiliated to Governorship, representatives of Province EU Advisory and Steering Committee, Çanakkale Municipality, University, Chamber of Industry and Trade, civil society organizations and press attended the opening ceremony.

Under the framework of this multi-annual programme which is also intended to encompass all the provinces gradually in the upcoming years, 25 provinces are awarded financial assistance. Çanakkale Province Private Administration, Çanakkale Chamber of Industry and Trade, South Marmara Development Agency, GESTAÞ  are the partrners of "EU Travel of Çanakkale".

In terms of the Project, three personnel from Project Coordination Unit of the Governorship of Çanakkale and nine personnel chosen by the EU Office will participate in the "Training of Trainers" program for five days. After the "Training of Trainers Program", trainers in the Project Coordination Unit of the Governorship of Çanakkale will give a Project Cycle Management training to twenty five officers from District Governorship Project Teams. Besides, in the trainings, "EU Promotion Bus" will take place as a mobile unit and a TV Program in local media will be broadcasted within the promotional activities.

A Telephone line will be assigned, numbered as "444 1 756" servicing across Çanakkale and will also be in service after Project completion. The buttons of "756" fall within for the abbreviation of Project Coordination Center (PKM) in Turkish.

A study visit to The Chamber of Commerce of Seville/The International Relations Department and INCOMA Project Office will be organized within the context of the Project. Within the promotion of the project and the Project Coordination Unit of the Governorship of Çanakkale, a Composition Contest and a short movie (10 EU Cities) is foreseen.
