Alanya Banana Producers Union "The Euro-Turkish Banana Connection" Project Opening Meeting

"The Euro-Turkish Banana Connection" project of Alanya Banana Producers Union, which was granted 113.860 Euro within the framework of Civil Society Dialogue-II Project, was introduced to the public on 21 July 2011 with an impressive inauguration ceremony at Antalya Chamber of Industry and Trade.

Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Egemen BAÐIÞ and President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe Mevlüt ÇAVUÞOÐLU have honored the opening ceremony in which the project's local partners, Alanya Chamber of Commerce and Industry and University of Akdeniz, Faculty of Agriculture as well as the representatives of the projects foreign partners, The Canary Islands' Association of Banana Producers (ASPROCAN) and Canarian Institute of Agricultural Researches (ICIA) were also present.

The meeting has come to an end with a reception after the speech of Mr. Hüseyin GÜNEY, president of the grant beneficiary, Alanya Banana Producers Union and the presentation, made by Project Coordinator Mehmet KURAL, about the objectives of the project.

Within the scope of the project which will be completed in 18 months, besides reaching the EU standards in banana production and marketing, it is envisaged to create a world-wide Turkish trademark benefiting from the Canary Islands' success in this sector.
