The Opening Ceremony of "EU Winds in Izmir" Project

"Provinces Preparing for the European Union Programme" was put into practice on 2^nd February 2011 for the purpose of enhancing the technical and administrative capacities of the "EU Units of Governorships" by the Ministry for EU Affairs  within the framework of the "Improving the Effectiveness of Governorships in the EU Accession Process Project" which is carried out for a year by the Ministry for EU Affairs  in cooperation with the Ministry of the Interior.

Under the framework of this multi-annual programme which is also intended to encompass all the provinces gradually in the upcoming years, 25 provinces are awarded financial assistance as a result of the technical and administrative evaluation among the 79 project proposals.

The opening ceremony of “EU Winds in Izmir” ,one of the projects among 25 others, was carried out at 6th of June 2011 in Izmir.

The opening ceremony was carried out at the Blue Room inside the Izmir governor building, the governor Cahit Kıraç, the Ministry for EU Affairs Project Implementation Director Bulent Ozcan, Izmir Provincial EU Permanent Contact Point and the governor of Konak Ahmet Önal, Secretary General of Izmir Development Agency (IZKA) Ergüder Can, the President of Yasar University Prof. Dr. Murat Barkan, district governors, bureaucrats and the representations  of the civil society organizations attended the opening ceremony.

Cahit Kirac has drawn attention to the increasing awareness on adaptation to the European Union day by day in his speech and said “Izmir raised its target since it has been consistently developing and branding city. There are also institutions committing social projects in İzmir.”

The assisted projects incorporates the missions like education, briefings about the negotiations, preparing booklets and organizing workshops depicted by Özcan and he added that the projects will be finalized at the end of the year.
