Egemen Bağış Awarded Young Translators with Plaque
The students who were placed in "Young Translators Competition" organised by the Secretariat General for European Union Affairs (EUSG) were awarded with a plaque by the Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagıþ.
With the accession of Türkiye to the EU, Turkish will be one of the official languages of the EU. In the EU accession process Türkiye should complete both its harmonisation with the acquis and the translation of the acquis into Turkish. Moreover, it is foreseen that Türkiye should train adequate number of professional translators to be employed in EU institutions after accession.
EUSG organised the "Young Translators Competition" for the purpose of raising the awareness of young translators and making contributions to their training. 82 students from 19 universities attended the competition held in English, German and French on 12 December 2010.
The students who ranked in the top three in each language will visit translation departments of the EU institutions in Brussels on 25-28 January 2011.
