European Parliament Prize for Journalism Launched

The European Parliament will award its Prize for Journalism in 2011 for the fourth time. The prize is desinged for journalists who have covered major European issues or promoted a better understanding of the EU institutions and/or EU policies. All participants must be nationals or residents of an EU Member State and registered journalists.

There will be four different categories for the prize: written press, radio, TV and internet. The winner in each category will receive € 5 000.

Individuals or teams of up to 5 people are eligible to participate with articles or reports.


Applications will be accepted from 15 January 2011 until 31 March 2011 inclusive.


Juries will be set up to select winners in each category in every EU Member State. A final jury comprising three Members of the European Parliament and six representatives of the journalism profession, will then select the four EU-wide winners. The award jury shall be chaired by the European Parliament Vice-President in charge of information and communication policy.
