Jean Monnet Scholarship Programme Info Day for Public Institutions Was Organized

With the presidency of Mehmet Cangir, the Vice General Secretary, an Info Day was organized as to inform the personnel of Public Institutions, on 5th of January 2011 by the Secretariat General for EU Affairs.

A wide range of participants mostly from Education, Human Resources, EU and International Affairs Units of Public Institutions participated to the Info Day besides the participation of Director of Project Implementation Unit Bülent Özcan, Assistant Expert for EU Affairs of Directorate of Project Implementation Duygu Yardımcı, Team Leader of Jean Monnet Technical Assistance Team Emine Akgün.

Vice General Secretary Mehmet Cangir indicated that "within the framework of Türkiye's negotiation process for full membership to the EU, Jean Monnet Scholarship Programme, a project funded by the European Union (EU), aims to support Türkiye's administrative capacity building efforts for the effective implementation of the EU acquis, through enhancing its human resources in the relevant disciplines."

Stating that %60 of 100 scholars for each year reserved for Public Institutions, Vice General Secretary Mehmet Cangir mentioned that "not only civil servants from the Head Organizations but also the civil servants from Provincial Organizations of Public Institutions could benefit from the Programme. Unfortunately the number of scholars remains low under 60 contingent reserved for Public Institutions. It is observed that the reason for the low interest from Public Institutions is different implementations regarding the clauses of related Regulation to which the Jean Monnet Scholars are subjected".

Reminding the importance given by the Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bağıþ for the effective use of the Jean Monnet Scholarship Programme by the Public Institutions, Mehmet Cangir emphasized that it is desired that the Jean Monnet Scholarship Programme is also embraced by the Public Institutions, the reserved contingent is used fully by encouraging their personnel for the application and the Programme is also actively announced at the local level.

Afterwards Director of Project Implementation Unit Bülent Özcan took the floor and gave useful information regarding the history, contingents reserved for different sectors, amount of the scholarship fee, application criteria and selection process of the Jean Monnet Scholarship Programme of which the deadline for application is 8th of February 2011. The Info Day is closed with the Questions&Answers section after the presentation.
